Fun with poll numbers: change vs. experience vs. identity politics

Gallup has released a series of polls over the last few days (most of which I'm sure have already been mentioned on some level here at Daily Kos) that taken together add some very interesting context to both the ongoing fight for the Democratic nomination and the general election this fall.
I do not think the word "strike" means what you think it means

"Be not careless in deeds, nor confused in words, nor rambling in thought." - Marcus Aurelius
I'd like to follow up on JeffLieber's diary, which I think was a necessary response to Alegre's lame attempt at framing her boycott of this web site as a "Writers' Strike". There are a lot more of us out here who aren't professional writers, but who nonetheless know where Jeff is coming from - some may be union members, while others, such as myself, grew up in union families. I won't attempt to speak for any of these other people, and I have nothing of any value to say about the perceived grievances of Alegre and her group, but from my personal perspective, to hear them frame their petulant snit boycott as a "strike" is insulting.
Bell Ewing, and why Geraldine Ferraro is wrong about Barack Obama

Today, while many of us in the blogosphere continue to preoccupy ourselves discussing the disturbing tone of racism that seems to have crept into the Clinton campaign's narrative lately, an African-American lady from South Dallas will be gathering together with family and well-wishers and doing something that few other people have lived long enough to do: celebrating her 114th birthday.
The Rush Limbaugh Effect: an analysis
Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 01:52:39 AM PDT
While looking at the exit poll numbers from Barack Obama's decisive victory tonight in Mississippi, one set of numbers in particular caught my eye: those breaking down the vote by party ID. The exit polls indicate that an unusually high number of voters who participated in tonight's Democratic primary (12 percent) identified themselves as Republicans. What was even more surprising, however, was who they voted for: 75% of Republicans who crossed over to participate in the Democratic primary voted for Hillary Clinton, while only 25% voted for Obama. But perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised, because Rush Limbaugh has been actively encouraging his sizeable and easily duped listening audience to cross over and vote for Hillary in an attempt to drag out the contentious battle between her and Obama. The numbers from Mississippi raise a question: is the unusually high Republican crossover vote an anomaly, or part of a trend that could affect the outcome of the Democratic nomination?
Here there be monsters
Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 11:33:11 PM PDT

"She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything. [...] You just look at her and think, 'Ergh'. But if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive." - Samantha Power, now former foreign policy advisor to Barack Obama, in an interview with The Scotsman
Like many Obama supporters, my first reaction when I heard about the above quote was unqualified agreement. Hillary Clinton and her surrogates have said and done a lot of unpredictable and destructive things recently to prop up her flagging campaign, and I think any rational Democrat paying attention would concur that a person who many of us used to admire and respect, has morphed into something out of an H. P. Lovecraft story - Hillary Cloverfield, if you will.

Dallas County Democrats, the big day is almost upon us! For a lot of us, this will be the first time that we've had the opportunity to have an actual voice in the nominating process for our party's presidential candidate. Many of you have already voted early, but for those of you who haven't, or for those of you who plan on participating in the caucuses (and that had better be all of you!), follow me below the fold for some helpful information.

We've been here before, haven't we? It seems to happen at least once every election cycle. The names are different this time around, but the M.O. is all too familiar:
An urgent reminder to Obama supporters in Texas [UPDATED x2]
Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 02:39:50 PM PDT
UPDATE: anna has stated that she will be posting a detailed diary tomorrow with more information about the primary/caucus process down here in the Lone Star state. I'll be keeping an eye out for her diary and urge all our Texas Obamaniacs to do so as well, especially if you're a political novice like me. Please be sure to lavish anna with tips galore and to rec her diary when it shows up.

In the aftermath of Super Tuesday, it's becoming increasingly obvious that Texas is going to play a significant role in determining who our party's presidential nominee will be when we go to the polls on March 4. I don't know about the rest of you Texicans, but I'm excited - for me, this will be the first time that my primary vote has actually counted for something besides affirmation for someone who has already won the nomination. But what has me even more excited about March 4 is something that I didn't know about until recently - in Texas, we get to vote twice! Well, sort of.
Yes We Can!

Hello everyone. This is my first diary so please be gentle!
I'm a proud supporter of Barack Obama, and needless to say, I'm disappointed that he didn't win tonight in New Hampshire. But despite the fact that my candidate lost by a few percentage points tonight, I am not despondent. That's because as proud as I am to be an Obama supporter (Obamaniac? Barackophile?), I am even more proud tonight to say that I am a Democrat. Voters in Iowa and New Hampshire have shown up in historic numbers to give their support to Democratic candidates, and I think that this bodes well for the future of our country.
