Clinton gets the Details

In the spirit of sharing points of view....ha,ha,ha...
Here is a reference to an article about the Las Vegas debate for your consideration:
http://www.thestreet.com/...
"When the debate turned to policy, the three Democrats agreed on most issues. But deciding who won the debate came down to critical differences to answers on three big issues: the economy, energy policy and foreign policy. On these issues Clinton asserted her knowledge on policy issues and dominated Edwards and Obama."
Beheaded puppies- Not Michael Vick, Guess who?
Fri Sep 21, 2007 at 12:12:42 AM PDT
Your federal government is very busy spending your taxes in many important actions representing the wishes of the people in our democracy. Beheading coyote puppies is one of those critically important actions that you demand... right?
Warning- this site is not for the squeamish- but "Wildlife Services" of the USDA doesn't appear to have a problem with squeam.
http://sinapu.wordpress.com/...
Sinapu points out the hypocrisy of Michael Vick getting the perp walk attitude from the media while the USDA and other agencies have spent decades annihilating wildlife.
impeachment-a letter to my representative
Sat Aug 11, 2007 at 12:17:53 AM PDT
Bill Moyer's hosted Conservative scholar Bruce Fein and the Nation's John Nichols tonight in a Bill Moyers Journal titled, "Impeachment: The Conversation Continues..." Well into the hour long discussion it became very clear the 1) there are undeniable reasons for impeachment of both the President and the Vice President, 2) regardless of your political leanings, both right and left have one common need for seeking impeachment- the preservation of the United States of America as conceived by the Constitution.
And then it hit me.. what we are losing
then it hit me harder.. who is responsible for the loss of this nation

If you want a hiking boots on the ground perspective of environmental politics in the western US, take a look at the blossoming Ralph Maughan blog. However, be warned that the emphasis of the blog is on the environment, not party glorification. Unfortunately, this time it's not looking good for the Nevada Senate Delegation, one of whom is the Senate Democratic Leader.

Why Mideast Conflict is Inevitable...
Thu Dec 07, 2006 at 11:38:44 AM PDT
The average American doesn't understand that their nation has a tacit top-level agreement to completely ignore Israel's possession of nuclear weapons. It's "agreed" that the US government will never even mention it, so it's never in the public arena for discussion. The curtain lifted briefly during the Gates confirmation hearing:
Israelis piqued by nuclear "confirmation"
http://news.yahoo.com/...
During his Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Gates mentioned why Iran might be seeking the means to build an atomic bomb: "They are surrounded by powers with nuclear weapons: Pakistan to their east, the Russians to the north, the Israelis to the west and us in the Persian Gulf," he said.
The remark led Israeli news bulletins. State-run radio suggested Gates may have breached a U.S. "don't ask, don't tell" policy that dates back to the late 1960s.

Bush explains- Iraq an OIL WAR
Sun Oct 29, 2006 at 10:33:32 AM PDT
In his own words. Yesterday (11-28-06) George W. Bush was on the tv. He explained why we're in Iraq:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/...
"I want you to think about a world in which rival forms of radicals competed for power in the Middle East, to deny the hopes and aspirations of millions of people who simply want to live in peace. They would topple moderate governments. They would use oil as an economic weapon to bring the West to her knees, and to mix all that in with a country with a nuclear weapon. And 20 or 30 years from now, if that were to happen, people would look back and say, what happened to them in 2006? How come they couldn't see the challenge? How come they couldn't see the threats to a generation of Americans?
Well isn't it about time. The president says we are at war in Iraq to stop those who would use oil as a weapon against the West . Well how about that. IT'S AN OIL WAR.
While we ponder Foley/Hastert..Rummy ponders Nuclear strike?
Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 06:05:03 PM PDT
North Korea announced Tuesday that it intends to test a nuclear bomb. There has been a lot of international condemnation and the United States is lobbying the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on North Korea if it proceeds with a test. State Dept appears to be ratcheting up the intensity big time.
http://www.usatoday.com/...
Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said Thursday that a nuclear test would be an "outrage."
"It isn't in their interest, and it isn't in anyone's interest," Hill, the chief U.S. envoy to stalled North Korean disarmament talks, said in an Associated Press Television interview. "We will not accept a nuclear state."
.
.
In the event of a nuclear test, Hill said, "We would have no choice but to act and act resolutely to make sure (North Korea) understood, and make sure every other country in the world understands, that this is a very bad mistake."
It's OK for Bush to Leak

Glenn Greenwald points out that,
"One Bush follower after the next who has been furiously protesting the publication of leaks by the NYT and other newspapers -- almost all of whom has accused the NYT of treason, of providing aid and comfort to their Al Qaeda friends, etc. for reporting leaked classified information --"
Opportunity to light a fire?

Senator Spector will
hold hearings on Feingolds censure resolution next Friday.
If Democrats play this right, Republicans are about to step into the abyss. A DOJ run amok (read lipris) is just what the American people need to hear about to begin the revolt against Bush's ILLEGAL NSA orders.
However, thus far Dem's have preferred to abandon Feingold rather than stand up for American rights. If they are playing their cards close to the chest, that's great because they've got to have 4 aces by now (lying about justification for pre-emptive war in Iraq, Abu Ghraib, regular Abramoff payoffs, NSA spying).
Is that what's happening? I'm getting ..nervous about this. Is this hearing a giant opportunity to open political pandoras box or are we calling, emailing and faxing into a black Senatorial hole?
Wisdom from Coretta Scott King
Tue Jan 31, 2006 at 09:11:35 AM PDT
God rest her soul. The wife of the late Dr. Martin Luther King passed in her sleep last night. I found
these words particularly prophetic:
On the 25th anniversary of her husband's death, April 5, 1993, King said the war in Vietnam which her husband opposed "has been replaced by an undeclared war on our central cities, a war being fought by gangs with guns for drugs."
"The value of life in our cities has become as cheap as the price of a gun," she said.
"In this country, we vigorously regulate the sale of medicine and severely limit the advertising of cigarettes because of their effect on human health," she said Jan. 15, 1994, the 65th anniversary of her husband's birth. "But we allow virtually anyone in America to buy a gun and virtually everyone in the nation to see graphic violence."
ALERT: Pombo Environmental -Patenting- May PASS
Sat Nov 19, 2005 at 06:41:29 PM PDT
[From the diaries w/ minor edit -- Hunter]
Richard Pombo (R-CA) has been hired by industry to eviscerate environmental protections in the United States. He is on the verge of a success as only he can define it-Pombo's public land giveaway is buried deep in the House deficit cutting measure that passed 217-215 this week. Drilling in ANWR is a drop of oil in the bucket compared to the damage this could cause.
Congress prohibited patenting a decade ago. WHY ARE THEY BACKTRACKING ON PATENTING OF PUBLIC LAND? Taxpayers and the environment are about to get a major screwing.
From U.S.Newswire a good description of patenting and the "House's Massive Public Lands Giveaway".
The provisions end a decade-long Congressional ban on "patenting" or sale of public lands claimed for mining and creates a new policy of offering vast areas of Western public lands for sale for non-mining uses like real estate development and oil drilling. Under the bill, U.S. and foreign corporations will be able to buy and develop important natural areas now used for recreation, wildlife, fisheries or regional drinking water supplies -- including areas within our National Parks, National Forests, and BLM lands.
UPDATE with sincere gratitude to posters: FAX House and Senate Leadership in Washington, CALL their local and home offices - now is the time! Word has it that if Pombo gets on the House-Senate Committee this beast is a done deal.

Oil Drilling in a National Park
Tue May 31, 2005 at 05:36:19 PM PDT
Environmentalists have predicted this. If Bushco can get away with drilling in just one national park or designated wilderness, the logic goes, then the precedent is set for all protected lands. While pushing forward with numerous destructive acts of this sort already (clearcutting in the Tongass Roadless Area, gas exploration in Utah) the Bush administration now has it's sights on the nightmare,
drilling in a National Park designated as Wilderness.
Tucked away in the 96-page emergency military spending bill signed by President Bush this month are four paragraphs that give energy companies the right to explore for oil and gas inside a sprawling national park.
A military spending bill? How much environmental holocaust has America endured via military spending bills? And where is the patriotism in that?
global economics 101
Mon Mar 07, 2005 at 07:55:32 AM PDT
Ever wonder how it all works?
- the budget deficit, the value of the dollar, the plethora of "made in China" labels? Ever wonder where the economy is going? Is it all going to hell in a handbasket made in Malaysia?
I came across an insightful yet fairly accessable explanation of the current state of global economics. If like myself, you have been puzzling over "how does it all work?" (actually it's more like "how in the h*ll can all of this cr*p possibly fit together???") perhaps this will give you a starting point.
Most of these ideas come from
John Mauldin (free registration required).
NO, I'm not promoting the site. I just learned a lot there and like most bloggers... share. Be advised- Mauldin appears to be a Republican. Apply salt grains "liberally." Nonetheless his conclusions regarding budget deficits take red-ink Republicans to the woodshed. Personally I do not see Repubs as the enemy- simply the opposition. After reading this however, I DO see red-ink Repubs as an enemy. Their actions are threatening the well-being of our nation. You'll understand better if you read.
James Baker "Address Global Warming"
Thu Mar 03, 2005 at 11:52:27 PM PDT
Unbelievable. Former Sec of State Baker is "coming out" for action on
Global Warming.
Former Secretary of State James Baker, a close ally of the Bush family, broke ranks with the Bush administration on Thursday and called for the United States to get serious about global warming.
Baker, in a speech to an audience that included a number of oil company executives, said "orderly" change to alternative energy was needed.
.
.
"When you have energy companies like Shell and British Petroleum, both of which are perhaps represented in this room, saying there is a problem with excess carbon dioxide emission, I think we ought to listen," Baker said.
A "Clear" Wedge Issue
Thu Mar 03, 2005 at 10:11:24 AM PDT
Republican Environmental ethics are so far out of step with American Values it
STINKS.
Federal legislation would undermine North Carolina's efforts to reduce pollution blowing across the mountains from other states, businesspeople and lawmakers from Western North Carolina said Tuesday. They urged the state's congressional delegation to oppose it.
.
.
Mack Pearsall, a lawyer and real estate developer in Asheville, said North Carolina has taken steps to protect its environment because North Carolinians recognize that prosperity depends on a healthy environment.
"The very thought of having our hard-fought efforts in North Carolina gutted ... is repugnantly disheartening to me," he said
A "lawyer and real estate developer" is against this Bush environmental law....Whoa-that sounds like a wedge issue to me.
USDA in charge of National Parks ?!?
Fri Feb 18, 2005 at 12:18:09 PM PDT
Some dedicated environmentalists from the
Buffalo Field Campaign stumbled into an
effort from the Montana Legislature to put the
USDA in charge of all animal life inside Yellowstone National Park (think slaughterhouse management).
