Up yours Peter G Peterson Foundation.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 10:50:05 AM PDT

I don't usually complain about advertisers but this one is over the line.

Up Yours, Baby Boomers! The American government has made $53 trillion worth of promises they can’t pay for.

And with 78 million baby boomers reaching retirement, guess which generation is going to be left with the IOU's?

We’re the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, and we’re here to do something about it

LA Times, Double D

Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 07:58:48 AM PDT

That's Double D for a double dose of lunacy. Editorials slamming Obama from ex-UN ambassador(by recess appointment only) John Bolton and 101st Fighting Keyboardist Jonah Goldberg.

The sound of crickets.

I realize that short diaries are against the rules, but I've seen nothing about this matter discussed and I'm sick to death of reading about Reverend Wright and the primary.

Condi in Wonderland.

Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 07:20:50 AM PDT

She's gone into the rabbit hole or through the looking glass. To a strange "wonderful" land where words mean just what you choose them to mean neither more nor less.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'
'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

From through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
Not content with smashing Humpty Dumpty, administration mouth piece Condi Rice insists on adopting his logic as well.

It's Deja Vu all over again!

Lawrence Peter Berra, St. Louis born son of immigrant parents, is widely known as one of the greatest catchers in baseball history. He is also at least as well known for his sometimes garbled use of the English langauge. Amusing, in a colorful Hall of Famer, the fractured syntax and garbled use of the English language is not so amusing in a former cheerleader, future "Hall of Shamer". Today's CNN story brought back memories!

Huckabee VP choice puzzles Party Leaders.

Mon Dec 03, 2007 at 03:15:45 AM PDT

In a move that has party leaders and pundits alike puzzled Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has prematurely announced his choice of a VP running mate.

From yesterday's LA Times, "Fortunes shift as oil prices soar."
http://www.latimes.com/...

Oil makes the world go 'round. Each day, more than 85 million barrels of black gold are pumped from the ground -- that's nearly 70 ounces for each of the 6.6 billion men, women and children on Earth.

Since January, the price of a barrel of oil has almost doubled and is now approaching $100. Blame tensions in the Middle East, speculators on a quest for profit and the hunger for energy of rising powers, including India and China.

So where has the money gone? Who is profiting from the rise in prices?

Archie Bunker on campus?

Wed Nov 21, 2007 at 05:31:26 AM PDT

Looks like a slow pre-holiday here on the blog so I thought I'd just throw this out for your amazement/amusement this morning. Years ago when so-called responsible citizens were allowed to respond to "on the air" editorials an "All in the Family" episode involved Archie's response to an editorial about airline hijacking. Archie's solution to the rash of armed hijackings was to arm all passengers preflight. A John Wayne, Clint Westwood type of solution that for some reason the TV station allowed Archie to vent on air no doubt providing an inspiration to an impressionable, youngish Bill O'Reilly. I suppose that reruns of that old show are making the rounds and this sort of insanity is having an effect on a younger impressionable generation.

Living in Champaign-Urbana for the last 30 years of come to appreciate this community. Although it's a small community the location of the University of Illinois here lends many attractions to what would otherwise be a typical small Illinois town, good bookstores, fine restaurants and occasionally first rate college sports teams. Although the towns are relatively liberal the surrounding area is right on the edge of the bible belt. There is a quite diverse community with people of all faiths running the range from evangelical Christians to devout Illini fans. title=

Cheney Hunting Trip, No human casaulties!

Tue Oct 30, 2007 at 06:50:23 AM PDT

"UNION VALE, New York (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney spent about eight hours hunting Monday at a secluded Hudson Valley gun club where well-heeled enthusiasts shoot(sedated) ducks and pheasants." Ah.,,, Man against nature, our heroic VP in a life and death struggle against cage raised fowl, and he managed not to shoot a single human being this time.http://www.cnn.com/...

Bush Surveys Bridge, Pledge Aids
Aug 4, 12:27 PM EDT
By DEB RIECHMANN - Associated Press Writer

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- President Bush surveyed Minneapolis' collapsed highway bridge from the ground and air Saturday, viewing the concrete slabs and twisted steel that once spanned the Mississippi River. He pledged to help rebuild the vital link as quickly as possible

No sense of irony at all. Perhaps he's concerned about the groundbreaking ceremonies at the site of the new $522 million government subsidized stadium.http://www.insightbb.com/...http://wcco.com/...

There is too much unfinished business. Pass the bills. Send them to the president. Continue all investigations. This is what your contituents want you to do.

On July 16th undersecretary of Defense Eric Edelman(bio here:http://www.defenselink.mil/...)responded to questions Senator Clinton asked about redeploying our forces out of Iraq.

He wrote,

"Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia,"

There is no question that this response to a responsibly asked question by a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee was reasonable and appropriate, and the administration's response was a typical overreaction to any questioning of their failed policies.

Iraqi forces to "Surge" too.

Wed Jun 13, 2007 at 04:55:56 AM PDT

Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, until recently head of US efforts to train the Iraqi military, announced yesterday beffore a House panel, that the Iraqi army needs to increase it's forces by an additional 20,000 men, in order to free US troops from daily patrols, manning checkpoints and doing other dangerous duties. If the Iraqi army had been able or willing to accomplish these duties in the past our so-called surge would have been unnecessary in the first place.

Blockbuster from Iraq.

Thu May 24, 2007 at 04:20:28 AM PDT

The surge is not working and a new "strategy" is in the making from our top general in Iraq. Tucked away in a CNN story,Body pulled from river identified as missing U.S. soldier, about PFC Joseph Anzack, way down after 14 "paragraphs" is the blurb "Team working up new strategy".

Friday News Dump?

Sat May 05, 2007 at 04:51:38 AM PDT

The Friday News Dumps seems to be a weekly ritual with the Bush administration so I tend to read the Saturday paper with interest.  It piqued my interest to see the headline in todays Washington Post: Bush Aide to Leave No. 2 National Security Post. I'm never suprised to see resignations from this administration especially since a Democratic Congress took over this year but this one came from out of the blue. A National Security Post not Justice or Interior Departments. http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

What is the SITE Institute?

Mon Apr 16, 2007 at 05:07:23 AM PDT

One of the things that has made me most "irate" about our current situation in Iraq has been the use of questionable intelligence to justify the actions of the bush administration in Iraq. When a prominent figure like bill kristol blandly states on Fox News Sunday(4-15-07, no transcript up yet for the non-Imus fraction of the show) that we are engaged in,,,, "a war against al-Qaeda in Iraq" and then later, "Who set off the bomb in the Green Zone? Al-Qaeda in Iraq!"(My transcript from tivo). Mr kristols statement goes completely unchallenged.
