I spent several hours today with my nieces and their friend. An eight year old, a nine year old, and a six year old, all in a state of heightened excitement at the prospect of a trip to the public library. Oh, my.
They were all in a tizzy, and anxiously inquired whether they needed to bring their purses. They all brought them, of course, but then two decided to leave theirs in the car - asked me, in fact, "Do I have to bring my purse in?". Uh, no. The neighbor child did bring hers because she was carrying her mom's library card. Works for me.
We had to do the pre-going out litany before we left the house, and again before we walked into the library.
"How do we behave in the library?"
"Quietly"
"Right. And no burping. No farting. No running. Be polite...."
Does any of this sound familiar to you parental types out there?
Once inside, they beelined for the children's section, and swarmed the shelves in search of books worthy to checkout. What makes the cut in a little girl's mind? Cinderella made it; honeybees didn't. Van Gogh made it (the six year old got that one); puppies didn't. We also ended up bringing home a movie and a CD - princess themed, I believe, as well as a Disney songbook. We were treated to a capella renditions of "A Spoonful of Sugar", "Supercalifragilistic", and "Winnie the Pooh" on our way home.

OPOL created a wonderful diary entitled Ripples in a Pond - What One Person Can Do in support of the Netroots Nation Scholarship program. shermanesq had a good comment, a reminder to us all that no contribution is too small.

In reference to McCain's explosive temper, fetboy asks, 'What's the opposite of classy?' and Meteor Blades knocks it out of the park.

This great comment was in the very funny thread after the exceptionally funny diary by InsultComicDog.
From bubbanomics:
JeffLieber put together another hilarious diary today, but the tip jar and response were even funnier to me. Pretty rare for someone to get the better of JeffLieber, but psilocynic appears to have done it.
