Last night, my house was invaded by the most insane member of my HOA's board of directors. She didn't leave until midnight. A visit from this woman is like a visit from a chatty dementor. The subject matter wasn't fun (the rest of the board has asked her to resign), and I don't like her much personally - she's one of those bible thumping Bush lovers, and she is an unbelievable hypocrite. And she's an overtalker. Nobody can get a word in edgewise. Anyway,as a result I'm very tired - not just my body, my spirit and my mind are just wrung out after last night.
All of that made today a challenging day. I woke up feeling like my head was stuffed with foam rubber and wrapped in sheets of packing bubbles. Definitely a blunted intellect sort of day. One where I'm best filing my nails, or organizing rubber bands rather than taking on anything remotely difficult, like opening mail.
There was, however, a bright spot. I was helping out at my old place of employment. I've mentioned here a time or two that the man is a Reagan worshiping wingnut. One of the phone lines that rings into the office is listed with some people as a home number, and we occasionally get political calls. Today, that line rang, and it was the Republican National Committee. The caller didn't ask for my boss. Instead, she identified herself as being with the RNC and immediately started in on their spiel about how the horrible liberals were out to Clintonize the White House, and would I consider a contribution to make sure that this doesn't happen? While my first impulse was to hang up, some vestige in my weary brain recognized this as the opportunity for amusement that it was, and I stayed on the line and listened.
When she was done, she asked if the RNC could count on my support. I waited a beat or two and then I said, "You know, I don't think, no, I know - I'm not going to contribute to the RNC. The actions of this administration have pushed me further from the Republican Party than I've ever been in my life. None of the Republicans seeking the nominations impress me. There's no way I could vote for any of them in good conscience." I thanked her politely for calling, THEN I hung up.
I'd like to point out that I was 100% truthful in what I said. It was more fun than getting to answer Darrell Issa's push button phone survey honestly three times - once at home, and twice at the wingnut's office. Hey, the opportunities fell into my lap. I'd be remiss in my duties as a rabid venomous lamb if I didn't take them, right?
Anyone else had similar fun?
