NBC News President Steve Capus has made a statement about the suspension of Imus at Countdown's blog TheNewsHole
Don Imus has expressed profound regret and embarrassment and has made a commitment to listen to all of those who have raised legitimate expressions of outrage. In addition, his dedication - in his words - to change the discourse on his program moving forward, has confirmed for us that this action is appropriate.
Capus goes on to say that Imus's future is in his hands, "...is contingent on his ability to live up to his word."

Dear Steve,
As a long time viewer of MSNBC, particularly your fine program "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" I would like to express my concern about the suspension of Don Imus. A two weeks suspension for a pattern of racist comments and behavior is lame and disrespectful to your viewers. He should be gone from MSNBC. You said in your statement today that his continued employment by MSNBC would be contingent on his good behavior implying that you would be watching closely. Please do Steve because if his track record is any indication he'll humiliate your network again. Why wait Steve? Save the embarrassment to MSNBC, Fire Him Now!
Respectfully,
Lahdee
