Remember Abramoff ? (with poll)

Wed Oct 31, 2007 at 09:52:00 PM PDT

Last Friday, Rock Strongo had a diary about Abramoff and the fact that subpoenas have been served on the White House for information relating to Abramoff and his relationship to various parties there.

Thusfar, nobody seems to have brought up the fact that Henry Waxman has sent a Happy Halloween letter to Fred Fielding, noting that no White House assertion of executive privilege having been made, Mr. Waxman expects those documents to show up next Tuesday, November 6.

Follow me over the fold for exerpts from the letter.

Dear Mr. Fielding:

The White House is withholding hundreds of pages of documents about the activities of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff on the grounds that these documents involve internal White House deliberations. Unless the President is prepared to assert executive privilege over these documents, they should be turned over to the Oversight Committee without further delay.

Obviously Fred has the next move. What will he do ?

Henry offers him an alternative:

Alternatively, in an effort to accommodate your concerns, you may make the documents available to the Committee staff for a review to assess whether the documents are needed for the Committee’s investigation. A process like this worked well in resolving a similar dispute that arose during the Committee’s investigation into the friendly fire death of Corporal Patrick Tillman. If you would like to pursue this alternative, the staff review should occur before the close of business on November 6.

(Emhases mine.)

Now, personally, I like to believe Waxman is playing chess, not checkers, so I, for one am anxiously awaiting the next moves.

For the entire letter, go

As for in-depth analyses, I leave it to you. What do you think ?
