  •  My dislike for Hillary is *not* Hillary-"hate" (64+ / 0-)

I respect what she's done and what she's gone through. I wrote about it at length a week ago and that diary disappeared without a trace.

My dislike for Hillary is based upon her policies, her tactics and the people with whom she associates. It's not misogyny, and it's not unthinking hatred. Exposing her ruthless and counterproductive campaign strategy isn't a worthless endeavor, either.

    •  Its not about Me... (53+ / 0-)

NYC Eve and I were discussing this on Teacherken's diary where he said that if Hillary gets the nomination he wouldn't support her.

I have also heard similar statements coming from some Hillary supporters about Obama and what NYC Eve and I are both afraid of is that the big picture... what is really at stake here in this election and is being drowned in a sea of political partisan vitriol... is the lives of others.

This is part of my post from that diary in response to an Obama supporter...
      -----------------------------------------------
I mean no disrespect, in fact I prefer Obama, but I think the demonization of Hillary has gone too far. I do not like her, I don't like her tactics, but I don't see the black heart that many here project upon her out of fear.

I'm a pacifist and consider Teacherken a spiritual brother and hold him in high regard, but in this diary I cannot agree with him.

There has been much talk in this thread of morality and ethics, but for my own personal decision there is another consideration that takes priority and is found in this quote:

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

         ....Mahatma Gandhi,

From my perspective... it isn't about me, it is about the lives of others.

Both Hillary and Barack have promised to end the war in Iraq by the end of their first term... while McCain promises endless war and a continuation of the doctrine of preemptive strike.

It is for the memory of 1 million dead Iraqis, 4,000 dead American soldiers, the countless wounded, the Iraqi refugees, the orphans, the widows and those who are dying as I write this... that I will support the nominee of the party.

Even for the memory of the dead from 9/11 will I vote this way, because violence leads to more hatred and more violence. The madness must stop some where... let it be here... let it be now!

Both Hillary and Obama have pledged to reform health care, while McCain promises to up hold the system as it is...  more murder by spread sheet!

The Institute of of Medicine study showed that 18,000 Americans die needless deathsevery year from treatable diseases if they had access to health care.

Every year we see parasitic insurance companies carving their wall street profits out of the suffering, misery, and death of our people as we saw in the case of Nataline Sarkisyan.

The number of uninsured is at 47 million and 400,000 American families are driven into bankruptcy every year from this system because of a medical crisis in the family. With the recession these numbers will begin to soar.

It is in her memory and for the 18,000 Americans who  are dying as I write this... here and now... that I pledge to vote for the nominee of the party... no matter who it is.

Hillary and Barack are but human beings and heirs to all our human faults and failings. Neither is perfect and I will not be their judge while the lives of so many hang in the balance.

None of us is perfect, at best...we are all perfectly flawed.

I have the right to do with my life as I will... as the dictates of my conscience and heart demand so will I meet my moments of decision. If I choose to die for my beliefs... so be it. Those moments of decision are in the final analysis the only thing in this life that I can truly call my own.

But I do not have the right to gamble with another's life or treat it with reckless disregard. I will not have another forfeit their life for my ideology or my beliefs or some ethical and moral standard that I subscribe to.

Of all the things that we humans place value on in this life... the greatest is life itself.

In the final analysis we all have to do what our hearts and conscience tell us to do, based on our values... I value the lives of others more than any notion of "ethical of moral" purity.

It is about the lives of others... it is not about me!

        •  I intend to... (6+ / 0-)

I am already expanding it and will keep repeating it because it is the truth and the dictates of my conscience and my heart demand it.

This is not politics as usual, there are many lives that hang in the balance and while we all have our preferred candidate... we can not... we must not... forget what is really at stake in this election.

          •  It is also (6+ / 0-)

            •  We've got a long way to go (7+ / 0-)

We actually need to get past high school and the cliquey behavior real fast. We don't have time to play the childish games I see being played out here. As the above poster has stated there are lives hanging in the balance and the GOP will have absolutely no problem exploiting the divisions in the same way we have exploited theirs.

              •  There seems to be... (5+ / 0-)

an urgency to this election.  A collective consciousness that is communicating, tangibly I must say, "enough is enough".

I'm not speaking in regard to either candidate for the democratic party.  I'm talking about how our government is run.

These days are the closest to any semblance of "Revolution" (however you define that) as we can get without actually revolting.

These days are History (with that capital H) in the making.  There are forgettable times in American Politics and these days won't be included.

There are SO many things wrong with our country and the methods of which it is run.  The people who run it.  The laws that govern it.  And it seems the people who interpert it have their own set of problems.  This election, and the turnout proves way beyond the shadow of doubt, is ALL about change.

Now is the TRUE TEST of the candidate.  Now we see them in all their (perceived) glory.  The next two months will be like naviagating the most impossible gauntlet.

This hinges on at least one thing:  Unbiased and fair projection from the MSM.  Let's be honest with ourselves; we don't verify much of anything (as a WHOLE).  We just take what the "4th estate" gives to us.  Save for the naked conspiracy theorists.  At least, they, present an opposing, if not misguided, viewpoint.

Hold everyone in the MSM accountable and it wouldn't matter.  You'd have the same old mind mentality, which appeals to the basest of instincts, calling the shots.  I'd like to see a list of the owners of ALL of the MSM outlets in the world.  Every country and every person who "owns" MSM outlets.  And lets take a look at them.

                •  We are indeed on the "turning Point"... (6+ / 0-)

The fulcrum of our society and I would have it be one based on truth and of the heart... as naive as that may sound to some.

We will be lucky to survive the 24 hour news channels and the assault on reason which they shovel at us in an unending torrent in the mad race for ratings which is in reality the race for profits... greed!

How many times have we heard stories about "this candidate exploded today" only to see a mild finger wave or similarly mild event that doesn't fit the description of what we are actually seeing?

They thrive on controversy... on contention... not thoughtful and insightful analysis or the truth.

I have said it in jest, but only half jest...

How much monewy has been raised and how so and so polled in Iowa will not solve education, health care, trade or any other number of issues. Whether or not Hillary is "human enough" or Obama "patriotic enough" will not solve any problem in 2009. Our media is a joke and I have no desire to hear their mea culpa for not fully vetting policy positions in 2009.

                •  Frankly (4+ / 0-)

I'm surprised the electorate hasn't hit the end of the proverbial tether with either political party. The number of people who identify as an independant is growing as people tire of political kabuki and yearn for solutions to the problems they face. The Democratic party has a window of opportunity thanks to the mismanagement of W. That window isn't going to stay open forever though. They better have some concrete plans because I think the number of people tired of being strung along by politicians who don't seem to have the same stake in coming up with solutions as the rest of us is growing.

                  •  Precisely why Clinton (0+ / 0-)

should not be supported in any way whatsoever. It's THE political issue of our time. More important than Iraq, Health Care Education etc:

Do we want politicians who are only out to increase their own personal power, or do we want someone who sincerely believes in fixing things?

                    •  IMHO... (0+ / 0-)

It has nothing to do with the who as it does with the what.  What we have to deal with is something unfortunate.  I can't see how we can overcome it when we love it and need it so much.

I mean, really, what the hell would we do without our precious MSM??  Where would we be?  Who would we be?  What would we stand for?

Ask yourself these questions seriously and then look at the reality.  It's, to say the least, a scary prospect.

We are fully complicit in letting the MSM (conspiracies aside) control our thoughts to the fullest.

Put on those tin-foil hats people.  At this point, we need them more than ever.

Good night and good luck.  Those words never rung as hollow as they have exiting the lips of Keith Olbermann.

evidence that either candidate as overwhelmingly sincere or in it for their own personal power. Perhaps though that is because I find myself in the Democratic corner rather than a Clinton or Obama corner. I don't assune to know their machinations other than the ones they openly admit which is that they believe they can make the country better.

            •  Hillary: Now With Slightly Less Evil ! (6+ / 0-)

So the best you can come up with is that compared to McCain is that Hillary is the lesser of two evils?

Greatly less. Go to McCain's website and look at what he advocates and then come back here and convince me that it in any way resembles what Clinton is advocating.

Then look at all of the match-up polls between Obama and McCain and tell me how, when most of them show Obama at best case only with a single digit lead, while others show him in a tie with McCain or losing to McCain.

Then tell me how Obama can win the general election if you piss off half the Democrats in the party?

You will need every single Dem to win the general election.

I never said that anyone should change their opinions or feelings, only that you consider the impact of what you say on those who read your posts. Insults and epithets, whether they are rightly or wrongly deserved never swayed someone to support your point of view.

If you are a supporter of Obama... then support him in a way that is consistent with his message of hope and unity.

Her votes, and all that don't matter.

The definition of insanity is voting the same way and expecting a different result. I'm talking to you FL,OH, KY, WV!

        •  Their lives are exactly what I am talking about.. (10+ / 0-)

Hillary and Obama have both pledged to end the war one year after taking office.

You have been blinded by your own hatred and anger.

If your truly honor these dead and the 1 million Iraqis you will end such attacks... they do no good except to divide the party and as God is my witness it will guarantee that there will be more lists of dead soldiers and civilians.

McCain has promised that the war will continue, that he will continue to do pre-emptive stikes, bomb Iran and any threat (real or imagined) to keep America safe.

No more! The madness must end now.

          •  She pledged to end it (4+ / 0-)

only after it was unpopular.  If she remained a Hawk she would have ended her political aspirations unless she changed parties.

If her vote on AUMF and Iran is indicative of how she will answer the Red Phone, then she too will use preemptive strikes and invasions to protect "American interests"--and we know what those are.  Let us not kid ourselves.  She'll continue to "prove" her C in Chief credentials after she's in office.  There is nothing like a well timed glorious little war to boost popularity.

There are options to the Left of a Clinton nomination, and if considering those options means I'm not welcome here, then so be it.  Try winning elections without the intelligentsia or a significant turn-out among blacks.

            •  I have read her speech from the Senate... (5+ / 0-)

I am not a Hillary supporter, but I have taken the time to go and read exactly what she called for in her speech on the floor of the Senate that day...

She asked that the inspectors be given more time to do their inspections in Iraq, that we not act unilaterally but build an international coalition and consensus as to a course of action.

She has spoken out against the doctrine of preemptive strikes repeatedly.

Her work on civil rights and joining Martin Luther Kings movement stretches back to her college years and is supported by her activities in the Senate.

I do not like Hillary Clinton, I do not approve of her tactics in this election, but I will not demonize her unfairly as you have done.

an invasion and subsequent occupation of a country that did not attack us and was ruled by a secular, right wing strongman with pan-Arabic tendencies that made our owners uncomfortable, not a religious fundamentalist who organized 9/11.

Authorization of the Use of Military Force.

She voted for it.  Her speech was cowardly hedging.

Typing in bold doesn't change that.

Nor does it bring back to life the thousands who starved because of the Iraq embargo in the 1990's, even though we know that such actions do not bring about regime change.

                •  No one in our history... (0+ / 0-)

Had ever used a doctrine of preemptive strike before, in fact we considered it a war crime as it rightly is.

Many Dems opposed the AUMF and many signed on to it, but none could have forseen the lengths to which the Neocons in the White House would go in their war for oil.

and posting long list doesn't prove your point either.

                    •  In all of your arguments... (4+ / 0-)

                      You forget one thing...

Virtually all of the polls have Obama winning over McCain by only a single digit lead and there are many more that show him in a tie with McCain or losing to McCain.

While I believe him to be the best candidate and the one that will take the nomination in the end, Obama is not a slam dunk for winning the Presidency by any stretch of the imagination!

I do not ask you to forget your anger or your feelings, but what I do ask is that you consider that in the General Election you will need every Democratic voter to win.

I ask that you think before you write, that you consider this party is split and that epithets and labels that will inflame Hillary supporters will not draw support to Obama.

That is of course unless to split the party is your real objective and that is why you are here.

stop writing in bold like I am a high school drop-out who needs such emphasis to understand and absorb what you are saying.

                        It's condescending.

At no point have I attacked HRC personally.  If I can't criticize her on the grounds of her campaign tactics and her voting history as a member of Congress, and its results, what am I left with?

I'm old, uber educated, and black.  The split in the party, on many levels, pre-dates the Clintons.  It goes back to Wallace and Truman.

And what happened to Wallace after Truman painted him as soft on Communism and national security?  He was done, that's what.

Workers of the world unite--back by popular demand.

No matter what is the truth... young... old... black... white... red... or brown... PHd or school of hard knocks...

slights against another are violence and will only bring a violent response and then both parties lose.

                            Please refrain.

thread that they are blinded by hatred and anger for Hillary.
                              That is condensending.
                              Disrespectful.
                              And wrong.

You've brought up some good points.
Stop negating them with making people's concerns appear as irrelevant by saying it's only their hate that prevents them from seeing the light.
I'm sick and tired of that and HRC supports use it to shut down debates all the time.
And they've been doing it for months.

                              so please stop it.
and yeah, you're going way overboard when pressing the bold key.
                              it's distracting.

                                      Hillary is an unapologetic imperialist...

If her vote on AUMF and Iran is indicative of how she will answer the Red Phone, then she too will use preemptive strikes and invasions to protect "American interests"--and we know what those are...

These are not facts, they are not "concerns", they are inflammatory rhetoric.

If you could enlighten me how these might persuade a Hillary supporter to switch to Obama in any way... I'm all ears.

If you could tell me how Obama can possibly win the general election if he loses half of the Democratic base... I'm all ears.

I never asked anyone to suspend debate, only to think about how that debate is conducted.

Whether you like it or not, their are a significant number of lives that can be lost if we lose the election to McCain.

I would hope that you could argue for Obama in a positive manner, one that is consistent with his message of Hope and Unity.

                            •  my point as I have been making for some time (0+ / 0-)

is that there are lots of people here who are not wo they say they are.
I was just snarking on his old uber ducated and black, when in an anonymous blog you can be whatever you want. Like an Obama supporter, when really a Republican.

Why did you assume I indicated in any way that you were Republican?
                                  Where?  Point to it!
My point is about how many posters have been commenting about how there is such discord here.
I speculated that the anonymity of this site opens things up to people saying what ever they want.
Where did I say anything about you other than "Maybe.. could be"  the opposite of how you described yourself in that particular
