The key point is that the Clintons invited Reverand Wright to the White House when they needed his support during the Lewinsky affair.
Now when politically convenient for the Clintons, they condemn Wright and use him as a cudgel to bash Obama.

We need to focus on other things IMHO. Whether it is race as a larger issue or the real things going on in the world.
WE MUST REJECT THE MEDIA NARRATIVE.

This photo is evidence of the Clinton hypocrisy
by Sheffield157 on Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 12:08:19 AM PDT
I'm for Obama, and I've had it with Hillary for a number of reasons, but this photo is less than meaningless. I am pissed at the Hillarites for trying to exploit the Wright situation, but there is no reason to assume that the Clintons knew anything back then about the type of remarks that are causing controversy now.
Chomsky Fever! John McCain sucks.
by miasmo on Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 01:04:15 AM PDT
Wright was clearly among clergy member of such importance and prominence that the Clintons invited him to the White House along with other members of the clergy as a "spiritual adviser" during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Clearly the Clinton's know the meaning of the meeting, would have vetted the invitees. Clearly Wright, a former marine, with a commendation from President Johnson, and a patriot as well as a prominent member of the clergy, was invited to help redeem Bill Clinton in the eyes of the American public. It is extremely unlikely that Rev. Wright was NOT vetted.
The point is that at Rev. Wright's time of need whose reputation is being tarnished by an unforgiving media the Clinton chose to exploit it for their own political gain while when Bill suffered the same indignation Rev. Wright was there for Bill's council. In addition Hillary Clinton's schedule evidence that she was also present.
That is why the photo once again reveals the hypocrisy of the Clinton during this controversy.

of which it is (further) evidence would take a longer explanation than most (esp. white) voters are willing to sit still and listen to. It will be seen (or spun) as hypocrisy, as gotcha, as a petty war about "preacher problems."
In public, hit her on NAFTA,on "NAFTA-gate" on lack of transparency, maybe on "The Family".... (There the difference can be explained more easily.)
In private, we've all seen it now....

They are doing the following:
I am sure thier are more but what this does is make me want to screem at Hilary.. I am tired of these racist attempts to divide our country. She is worse than Ron Pauls newsletters. Because her speach is not hateful up front but rather appeals to the underling xenophic nature of some of our citizenry. Thier racisim does not rise to the surfice for all to be seen but you can see it just under the crest of the sea of words her people spew like sewage into our nation.
For this I hold her, and her supporters as surrogets of the past which should be thrown into the dustbin of history so that we can move beyond these fears of the diffrent and to one of trust..
by hangingchad on Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 06:25:12 PM PDT
Within some white people, even people you wouldn’t ordinarily take for being racist, still lies a deep seated fear of subversive blacks threatening to overthrow the plantation and end civilization as we, or at least Scarlett O’Hara, have known it in the Western Hemisphere, as if some modern day Toussaint Louverture might come to life and turn the United States into Haiti.
This is something that has largely been forgotten, and buried along with some of the images of Malcolm X back in the 1960s. If you haven’t a racist bone in your body, none of this resonates in you when you see Wright’s antics, you think he’s just an old vitriolic curmudgeon with an ax to grind, perhaps legitimately so, but nothing to take seriously. But if you have Toussaint Louverture Fear Syndrome (TLFS), then Wrights statements resonate deeply and you might look at Obama and wonder if he might turn the United States into an enlarged failed state like Haiti. This is racism at its least cognitive and most emotional state. Both the mortals that would play the tape of Wright over and over again, and the those that react to it with negative emotion, are in fact wearing their racism on their sleeve as if it were a scarlet letter.

More parallel questions that should be asked:
Is Hillary Clinton the Black Panther Candidate? Why is Hillary Clinton spending time with anti-Americans? Is Hillary Clinton angry? Why hasn't Hillary Clinton rejected Wright for these TEN LONG YEARS?
Were these questions inappropriate in the first place for either candidate?
Or are such questions only appropriate when the candidate has highly active melanocytes?

Remember when Bill needed all that counseling for something he did or didn't do depending on what the meaning of "is" "is"..
My those were the good ol days of endless investigations and Democrats coming out to support him while he through them under the bus and lost statehouses and the congress and the senate..
I wonder if Rev Wright told him in his cursory fashion to "keep your wiener in your pocket"..
I always feel privileged because my preacher was one of the counseling ministers,, Oh My there was an army of them, they had their hands full..

THIS PICTURE TO SEAN HANNITY?
by christine20 on Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 07:51:01 PM PDT
yes, by all means, he would be ever so grateful to keep wright in the news cycle for as long as possible. sheesh. i agree with seattlite; it would be best to move on from the msn narrative and begin, once again, discussing iraq, health care, the economy and any number of issues on which the republicans have failed this country so miserably. besides, i don't see how the clinton campaign is at fault for this issue. you may want sen. obama to prevail, but that doesn't necessarily justify lashing out at his democratic opponent whenever his campaign is rocked by some measure of scandal. these were rev. wright's own words, neither created nor manipulated. and yes, much of what he is shown to have said should be condemned (though not all, me thinks). seeing how sen. obama has handled this "crisis" thus far is encouraging, although, this has already cut deeply, i hope that his words will stanch the bleeding.
by archibald barisol on Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 09:15:55 PM PDT
by the Clinton forces and fed to the media. Someone cut and pasted these words together and fed them to the media.
these were rev. wright's own words, neither created nor manipulated.
This is not a repug attack. They would have kept this until October. Recall, Hillary-Murdock affairs (fundraisers). It is Hillary and only her who needs help desperately.
Furthermore, while Hill is being very quiet about it, Bill is dropping hints like crazy: to wit: ~ if it were just Hill & McCain all this other stuff will go away.
Meanwhile, her campaign chiefs are pushing it to the max in their press conference calls.
Motive, opportunity and use of proceeds = enough to convict. Confessions usually come later. They will come.

Politico Story
A bit snarky but...there ya have it.
by mayan on Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 09:25:06 PM PDT
This occurred long before Wright made the inflammatory comments that ran on endless loop. Based on what was known in 1998, was there any reason he would have been considered a questionable character?
Can we please move on to something that actually helps Obama and doesn't keep this stupid story going?

this is some sort of "gotcha"? Really? What exactly is this supposed to "prove"? Man, if this is the kind of stuff that we can expect when things really get nasty when McCain and the Repubs take over the attacks, start saying President Gramps. Sad.
by Rasputin on Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 06:28:25 PM PDT
What's sad is Clinton, just to gain an advantage over Obama, seek the discredit a man through a vew select quotes who: > is retired and not running for office; > was merely execising his 1st amendment right; > served in the Marines; and > has even done a peace mission to free a US soldier captured by Syria.
The man did not deserve to have his worst and embarrassing quotes 6 years ago used to destroy him just because someone else was running for President. It adds a lot more to the story to see that apparently he was someone's whose support President Clinton was looking for when he himself was in trouble. It serves to tell us how disgusting really this destruction of Reverend Wright really is, and is highly relevant in terms of deciding whether Clinton is worthy of our nomination.
by sesquioxide on Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 06:46:31 PM PDT
So the Rev. Wright was at the White House in his position as a pastor. It only shows that the Clintons were interested in inviting diversity. Did they have a relationship with Wright?
