:-) One of the most fun diaries I've read on daily kos in a few days. And a candidate (GASP) diary no less.
I loved your take on Chelsea too. I saw her picture the other day, and was like "wow!". She is just drop dead gorgeous. And just like you, (must be a woman thing), I was like EAT IT JOHN McCAIN you very ugly nasty small, small, little man.
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." John McCain (at a Senate Fund Raiser. (1994? not sure of the date)
Thanks for being so fair in your assessment concerning the HRC event.
I love this man.

"Oh no...you changed your hair color? It's just so dark. You like it? And with your skin tone?" My Beloved Mom, December 25 2007, once again on notice.

Mean F****ing Barstids. While they carry out larceny (of us) murder (of thousands of Iraqis) and kidnapping (rendition).
Yeah, that's the ticket.
But just like any MFB's, if you show them the law, show them how you plan to prosecute, and then do a few of them, they tattle like the cowards they are.

He explains that it is "humor", but others of us would call it borderline dementia. Wonder why the GOP honchos have never been sold on McCain? This is why. He is a very, very loose cannon, prone to odd comments, dubious jokes and odd quotable gaffes.
All of which means, of course, that he is the perfect Republican candidate for 2008, since all the rest are similarly afflicted.
But what a spectacularly dumb thing to say in public, isn't it? Please someone, find a video clip of that.

in John McCain's behavior. It's both a strength and a weakness. Most people focus on the strength (steely resolve), but the weakness (complete lack of empathy) is nearly enough to disqualify him from serious contention as President IMO.

Edwards spoke about Nataline. Besides MLK and RFK, no politician has ever moved me that much.
I'm off the phones now...totally fried. I canvassed this morning....worked phones a little more....worked the event....wrote this blog as fast as humanly possible...made more phone calls..and now.....I'm delirious.
Hitting the streets in the morning and hoping that people will join the movement. It's real folks.

I was feeling kind of not well, and decided to skip the Edwards event this afternoon. Sorry I missed it now.

Thanks for what you're doing. Sorry your hair froze... maybe it'll grow back?
Besides MLK and RFK, no politician has ever moved me that much.
IMHO, the first job of the president is to move people. The job is not primarily beaurocratic or technocratic, it is political and inspirational. JRE sees that, and recognizes that it is values, not policy, that ultimately make change. Policies will always fall somewhere within a range that is defined by values. What JRE does is to redefine what values we will consider when making our policy choices.
Hillary and Obama seem to be saying: couldn't we have better policy within the present (conservative) values frame? Edwards is saying: change the frame!

Democrats have more family values in their little finger than the repubs will ever even understand. I'm so sick of the repubs getting away with "values voters" lines.
Family values includes but is not limited to:
Being able to pay for heating oil (or gas) to keep your family warm.
Being able to take your child, spouse, parent, sibling to get medical care without encumbrances.
Being able to purchase any food in a grocery store and know that it is safe, because it's been pre-tested and inspected.
Being able to buy a toy for your child and know that it doesn't contain harmful toxins or won't break off in a small child's mouth.
Being able to take a few hours off of work every once in a while to see your child's dance recital (event) without fear of losing your job, healthcare coverage, pension, house, et cetera.
So far, John Edwards is the only candidate I've heard that directly addresses these issues... because he gets it. Sometimes I think that the rest of the candidates are aware of these issues, but only from an academic standpoint.
The democrats need to hire a PR firm to get their message out, i.e., Use it or lose it, re the 68 million acres they're not drilling on... for starters.

your entry reminds me of my first love....howard dean. I was in Iowa that last week as well (on my own dime) and it was the most exhilerating (and sometimes depressing) and life-transforming week of my latter adulthood. I was working out of Des Moines and Cedar Rapids and the temperature was 8...as in "today's high is 8." And I walked literally for 5 and 6 hours straight each day. Knocking on doors....eating at restaurants & trying to win over the waitresses' votes with big tips....trying to keep that dang orange cap in place.
After all that, my most vivid memory wasn't Dean's scream (which, btw, did not happen...I know). It was the dogs! Every house in Iowa has a dog....most have two or three....and they come rushing out because how many idiots are they likely to see when the high is 8. And then they would accompany me down the icy streets, sniffing at my heels & veering away when i turned to face them. it was just me....3 Clark volunteers, 2 Edwards supporters....and 26 dogs....walking door to door for democracy.

is pure scum. Chelsea was a young girl then. That is beyond the line. Only a coward would attack a child on her looks. John McCain is a coward.
by TomP on Wed Jan 02, 2008 at 06:53:15 PM PDT
wasn't he who referred to Chelsea as "the White House dog" during Bill Clinton's tenure?
Again, just another example of the devolution of the republiCon party (and their lemmings...er...followers) If indeed you are going to send current pics of the beautiful Chelsea, please don't forget "whatta Rush" as he's definitely earned his. Good lil minion he is.

The best revenge is living well. Despite the right wing attempts to demonize that family and disparage Hillary for deciding to stay with him (Republicans seem to prefer divorce and movement toward a younger spouse), they raised an intelligent, attractive and successful young women. She certainly has turned out beautifully.
by churchlady on Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 06:36:29 AM PDT
In 2001, as President Clinton was leaving office, The National Review contributing editor John Derbyshire authored a column specifically attacking Chelsea, in which he wrote "I hate Chelsea Clinton because she is a Clinton", and "Chelsea is a Clinton. She bears the taint." Mr. Derbyshire went on to discuss his "dynastic" view of the Clintons, and how he saw Chelsea as part of and party to the dynastic aspirations of her parents.
this, as the coronation of Dauphin Bush was underway.
I am further of the opinion that the President must be impeached and removed from office!
