  •  RE: Why is it (63+ / 0-)

Several of you have asked about whether members of Congress GET how angry people are about Iraq.  I get it, and from where I sit many members understand and share that frustration, and we are working to build that number.  To me, the commitment to FFR is a line in the sand, and we are working to try to build the number of folks who make that commitment.  Let me just say thank you again to all of you who are helping us build the movement.

    •  Well, more power to you and your (9+ / 0-)

like-minded colleagues.  I'm glad to see that my representative, Ed Markey has signed on.

...on this very topic.  Richard Neal, MA-02, is not yet on your list - I'll keep plugging, and I'll ask my small network of local activists to get after him as well.  Thank you!

    •  Congresswoman Lee, you are a hero (12+ / 0-)

Oh, sure, he's Senate - he doesn't get it.  I get platitudes from him. Amy gets it.  Ellison gets it.

Heck - sometimes even Ramstad gets it.

I just wish our anger could be conveyed to the rest.  We are really ANGRY. And it seems we are not being heard.  What will it take?  Protests like Vietnam Era?  Letters aren't making it, being verbal isn't making it, faxes aren't being heard.  Barbara Lee - what will it take to be heard?

We thought we were sending  message in November but it zoomed past their heads.

It ain't you - I'm not faulting you - I'm faulting the rest.

    •  Thank you Rep. Lee (6+ / 0-)

I don't suspect Rep. DeLauro will not sign on, but will call her office to voice my opinion and desire that she does.

I suspected many in Congress "get" how over-the-top angry so many of "us" are... I just don't know how you all manage the restraint to not scream at the insanity and Republican hypocrisy.

Thanks for the line in the sand.  Please hold it.  Please hold it veto after veto after veto.

It is completely disingenuous of the president to suggest not funding the status quo is leaving the troops stranded in the desert with no bus ticket out.  Please call him on that too.

Thanks also for stopping by dkos.

and all the earth people are

i do not understand why people vote to give bush a dime

      bush is a war criminal

thank you barbara lee for supporting 333

The resolution charges that Vice President Cheney:

        1. has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, as well as
        2. fabricating a threat about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda, in order to justify the use of the U.S. Armed Forces against Iraq in a manner damaging to U.S. national security interests; and
        3. in violation of his constitutional oath and duty, has openly threatened aggression against Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and has done so with the proven U.S. capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining U.S. national security. [1][2]

The resolution was authored and submitted by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a representative of Ohio who is also a presidential candidate in the 2008 election. Congressman Kucinich has made available more than 45 documents supporting the articles of impeachment at his Congressional website, including at least 15 for each article. [3]

Dear Congresswoman, I am so happy to see this effort moving forward in the House.

If you had one wish, and could ask each of us to DO one thing to help make this bill reach the floor and pass, what would it be?

as I am now. You're across the Bay from me here in San Fran. And many of us Dean supporters know your attorney, who was so active in supporting Dean. I wrote him a note after your stand 6 years ago, admiring you and asking why can't we see more of Rep Lee?

I remember googling about a year later to try to find just one instance anywhere of a video clip of your vote, because I'd seen it on video around the time of its real-time occurance.

Nothing. I could barely find a single PHOTO of that iconic image of your voting No.

I remember all of this so well because I had read your rationale back then, and it made a lot of impact on me that your Dad is or was military, and that you are not simply a peacenik from a liberal city... but rather you, unlike so many others in COngress, actually did a very smart, 10-steps-down-the-road critical analysis of what could happen if such pre-emptive war powers were granted.

To me, you are one of my favorite elected officials in Congress.

Now. This is probably not in your current plans, however, I would just like to say that over the past 6 months as it has become so abundantly clear that we HAVE NO LEADER of the House of Representatives. And Ms. Pelosi, MY congressional rep, violates every progressive value and stance I hold dear as an American. many progressives in our SF district feel similarly. We are ashamed of her. But more so we are livid and the way she's been co-opted and has actively derailed accountability for the string of lies and illegal actions taken by this Adminsitration, over and over again.

Thus, back around July 4th, during the recess, discussion was reaching a fever pitch here at DK re "we ought to primary her and end this obstruction by pelosi -- ironic words since her behavior is very similar to the man she so often criticizes. The Decider. The person who won't see the landscape chnages and adjust strategy accordingly. The man who has no interest on what the people of America are saying to him via elections and polls.

It's very disheartening to see Nancy Pelosi, whose values are different from Bush's, neverthless, at the end of the day behaving exactly like him -- recalcitrant to any discussion or even feedback from her own constituents.

The first person I thought of whom I'd love to become Speaker of the House was you. I can imagine very clearly "Speaker of the House Barbara Lee".

I thought, well, nice dreams, but no way that could happen since you are a Congressional Rep in oakland. And then that Cindy Sheehan challenge was being floated, and people said "but she doesn't live in San Francisco"... And it was after that that I learned that one could move to SF and pretty immediately be considered eligible to run for office there.

Like I said, I'm sure not in your gameplan, and  last thing on earth you're going to do is make any comment here about the effectiveness or not of nancy Pelosi. I realize that could be politically disastrous, and you're way too smart for that.

I also understand and deeply respect that your fundamental service is to the people in the district where you live -- and thus, in this dream scenario, were SF to gain a real Congressional leader to replace the co-opted and completely ineffective Nancy pelosi, that would by definition deprive your district of your high-integrity and uncompromising leadership. And that's a sloppy way to perform your always-just public service.

But I wanted you to know that at least people in SF in the Dean progressive circles have kicked this around, maybe only in theory, and bottom line is: You would make an outstanding Speaker of the House.

Like I said, you do us all proud. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your amazing courage and morality. Thank you for staying out of the bear-traps of lobbying influence that cripple the performance of public servants.

Escalating rhetoric and provoking Iran right now, or any time, in a pre-emptive manner, would be the beginning of the end of the United States of America I know. And it's already in critical intensive care, barely hanging on as a functional democracy in the world.

I know you will always speak up and effectively to counteract any unwarranted provocations that set us on a course of disaster -- and you're a rare gift to America.
