cross posted at both my site and, bizarrely enough, at Digby's, where I'm taking over the controls for the rest of the week. Come by and say hello.
D-Day, the newest blog on the internet (at the moment of its launch)

O/T, any chance you can slip in an RSS feed over at Digby's joint while you're there? ;-)

One of the deepest mysteries of the universe, finally solved.
Wake the kids, pound on your neighbor's door, call all of your relatives, shout it from the rooftops, and send it in spam mails to every corner of the Earth:
DIGBY HAS AN RSS FEED!
D-Day, if you can point me now to an RSS feed for Atrios, then I shall perform ritual sacrifice of my arms and legs in your honor.

But there's no need for the sacrifice...

... since I no longer have arms or legs.
Sorry to be taking this thread so far off-topic, but of the many annoying things about the experience of reading blogs, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that has been more frustrating than the lack of RSS feeds for Digby and Atrios.
And now, shortly before year's end, they are revealed. No words could ever express the depth of my gratitude and relief. I feel like I've been shown a glimpse of heaven.

... who said his objective in office was to "strengthen the office of the president" - before the 2000 "election" - yes? I know I've read the quote and the circumstances many times, but I didn't save the links. I think it might have been Frontline show on Dickie that said that attitude came about because of Dickie's connection to the Nixon ('If the president does it, it's not illegal.') administration.
I'm SO tired of the de facto dictators in power. If we end up with another resident of the oval office who inherits their 'unitary executive' claims and acts anything like Dickie and Georgie (even with a D behind their names), I will be thoroughly disheartened. I want a restoration of the balance of powers as spelled out in the Constitution.

...to hear the Democrats say, flat out, without any throat-clearing what they believe, specifically, regarding the imperial presidency and unitary executive.
by Meteor Blades on Wed Dec 26, 2007 at 03:03:20 PM PDT
And then I'd pick my chin up off the keyboard, tie it back on my head, and wonder if I was finally being allowed out of the surreal painting I feel like I've been stuck in since December 2000.
I don't expect to hear any candidates talk about the Constitutional powers of the executive branch vs. the claims of the executive and/or Fourthbranch, nor do I expect any to say they would abide by the Constitutional balance of powers. They covet those unconstitutional and extralegal 'unitary executive' powers in that little imaginary cherrywood box that John Nichols spoke of in the Bill Moyers Journal show on impeachment.
We tread down a treacherous road if we end up with a serial dictatorship and the only thing that changes is the R or D letter behind the names of our "leaders."

and Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe got us closer to answering that, most of all, Congresspeople and the American public need to say what they believe about that.
We can handle even a President Cheney when Congress is asserting its proper powers and responsibilities.
Of course, the traditional press is trying their very bestest to thwart that discussion.

President Cheney would be just fine by me. Were Congress to impeach Bush, by the same standard a President Cheney would have to hew closely to the law and operate within strictly 2nd branch, not 4th, powers.
No way he would agree to that, though. He would resign first, if he hadn't been impeached at that point already. Not to mention that a President Cheney would drag down the populartity of the Republican field even more that Bush does already.
by Simplify on Wed Dec 26, 2007 at 05:26:14 PM PDT
we would have a real facist government then.

Their "legacy" is even worse than their actual presence. Well, maybe it's a tie.
If these bastards are allowed to just walk out of the white house (assuming they'll go quietly), then future regimes will rely on the precedents they've set for future crimes and atrocities.

this sort of thing to people besides those of who not normal and actually pay attention to how our government works their eyes glaze over. They think it's not important because they don't know enough in the first place about how our government is supposed to work and has for a very long time.
