to pick her up at the vet and she wasn't there. They were closing and he wasn't there so I will be going down in about an hour. God, I hope she didn't die.

with the vet in the morning, he was concerned that she may not make it. She had a vaginal tumor. She looked so sick before her surgery.

homeless dog, and thanks to some generous kossacks I was able to donate to fix her up. She will be staying with me until we can find her a good home. She was brought to our annual spay neuter clinic but they couldn't help her. I happened to be at the vets when they brought her in. They were going to put her down because of the expense, and I was able to pay for the surgery and offer her a home.

3 year old puppy who was abused at a crack house. Sarah ended up being a very loving dog. But she has a few deformities due to what those people did to her.
Makes me want to cry...just thinking about how meanly people treat animals.

I see it on a daily basis living in a poor beach town in Mexico. The story on this little dog is interesting. The lady who brought her in said that she was hanging around a construction site where a gringo is having a huge home built. He wouldn't help the poor dog so the Mexican workers were sharing their lunch with her. I hope this guy drowns in his dollars and never knows a moment of peace! Makes me ashamed!

Both have Australian Cattle Dog in them.
Both were abused, one totally. He was part of a dog fighting ring. They would put him between two pit bulls and get them all riled up. both his ears are ripped (looks like he sore earings and they ripped them out. He has some issues, everytime he gets up, he limps for a while, can't jump up on things, etc.
But when he goes to the dog park,he gets so excited. He walks around the fence slowly, pissing and scratches and just couldn't be happier. I am pretty proud of the wonderful home my wife and I provided to this loving animal. Petey is awesome.

that was left in a Rocky Mountain camping ground. It just hoovered around their campsite for days. They tried to find out the owners, but it wasn't anyone's dog. So when it was time to leave, they decided to take the dog with them.
I can't believe the jerks who strand animals--cats or dogs. Especially because they're tame. Often times cats are declawed.

and being amazed at the beauty of various breeds. However, when I get a dog I go to the local Humane Society and pick something that looks friendly and full of character. I've never been disappointed.
One of our current "idiot children" is named Spam. He's the mystery meat of the dog world. Ingredients and heritage completely unknown. But a great dog, even if he does dig holes in my garden.
Anyone got tips for how to curb this destructive behavior?
My dogs think I'm smart and pretty.

You could also try giving him his own digging area where it is "legal". Like a doggie sandbox. Hide treats and toys there on a regular basis, and reward him and praise him for digging there. Every time you see him digging in an "illegal" spot, redirect him to his own digging area, and then praise.
Make this area more attractive by adding scents, stuffed Kongs, treats, and new toys on a regular basis (dig a hole and put them in there for him to find).
Of course, training him to do this will go more quickly if he is not left out unattended during the training period.

but I like the idea of giving him a "legal" dig zone. Hopefully, it will reinforce his good citizenship skills and take him off the road to doggie ruin. Thanks

Maybe give him his own little area, but instead of treats, hide beer.

from the spay and neuter clinic and they said that the tumor was removed and someone picked her up yesterday. They don't know who picked her up or where she is. I told them that she was a street dog and that I paid for the surgery. The lady replied that if I see her on the street, just take her home! I hate the shit that goes on here. Nobody ever knows anything! The vet still hasn't opened and I will go back and talk to him. I am hoping that it is the lady who brought her in. He knew that I was to take her home! I am soooo pissed right now!
by mango on Fri Nov 30, 2007 at 08:49:27 AM PDT
I am so sorry! But at least you know she's alive right?
by donnamarie on Fri Nov 30, 2007 at 09:27:44 AM PDT
whoever picked her up didn't just turn her loose in the street. Its twelve thirty and the vet hasn't opened up. Guess he will be closed all day. I just spent an hour walking around town looking for him or the lady who brought her in to no avail. I am hoping that the lady who brought her in picked her up. She knows where I live so maybe she will come by.
by mango on Fri Nov 30, 2007 at 10:33:23 AM PDT
Your poor baby is sick and I can't believe someone would just put her out on the street. Do you know where the lady that brought her in lives? I feel so bad for you mango. I'm hoping this story has a happy ending.

but I'll take the quirkiness over the U.S. smugness. It'll be a while before Mexico discovers "customer service" but in the meantime, I feel safer in Guadalajara than I do in the U.S.
I find it helps to be calm and persistent. Good luck!

Don't get me wrong, I love it here and would never go back to the US to live. I am pretty much over it now. I will just have to wait for the vet to open tonight,if he does. If not, I'll find out tomorrow. As for crime, it hardly exists. Nothing to be scared of here and I am a woman.
